Lead Local

Nonprofit Leadership Development

The First Interstate BancSystem Foundation is proud to introduce Lead Local to our Billings community. Lead Local is a new and innovative leadership development program for nonprofit organizations. It seeks to improve community strength by focusing on leadership development through a unique combination of executive coaching and the framework of Dare to LeadTM by Brene Brown.

Lead Local is sponsored by First Interstate BancSystem Foundation and free for participants. The program is application based and currently has the capacity for 40 nonprofit leaders and representatives (20 organizations).

Program Details

Lead Local is facilitated by formally-trained and certified executive coaches Laurie Smith and Mary Beth Beaulieu, who is also a certified Dare to Lead facilitator.

The program is a five-month commitment compromised of four in-person, bi-weekly sessions followed by one-hour virtual check-ins for three months.

Research has shown that organizations with strong psychological saftey, courageous leaders, and a solid foundation of trust are more likely to meet their strategic goals. Lead Local follows a diad model and strongly recommends one senior leader and one board member from an organization to apply and attend all sessions.

Dare To Lead

Based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown, Dare to Lead™ is an empirically based courage building program designed to be facilitated by organizational development professionals.

The most significant finding from Brené’s latest research is that courage is a collection of four skill sets that are teachable, measurable, and observable. The Dare to Lead™ program focuses on developing these courage building skills through workshops, trainings, and coaching to help individuals, teams, and organizations move from armored leadership to daring leadership.
