Mini Bank Program

First Interstate is commited to fostering financial skills in youth and instilling good financial habits early.

Our Mini Bank program, a collaboration among the First Interstate BancSystem Foundation, community schools, and their local First Interstate branches, is designed to help children build strong financial foundations for informed future decision-making.

There are three components of Mini Bank

Bank at School

With Bank at School, students run a school-based bank to promote financial education and asset building. With support from local First Interstate bankers, students learn about the real-life aspects of banking. This includes servicing their own special savings accounts where they earn 4% interest as an incentive to save. Students also participate in hands-on activities and classroom lessons to learn about the importance of saving and eff­ectively managing money.

In-School Learning with Banzai (K-12)

First Interstate’s partnership with Banzai brings real-world finance and practical life skills into the classroom. Teachers can access a platform of resources, and students engage in fun, interactive activities using computers or tablets.

My First Nest Egg

First Interstate has partnered with My First Nest Egg to bring healthy money habits to children ages 3-12. Two online portals and apps exist: one for at home learning and one for in-school learning.

In-School: First Interstate bankers' partner with local schools to supplement what teachers are already doing in their classrooms. These bankers bring in lessons and concepts to fit the classroom’s needs, regardless of age and level of understanding. Hands on learning activities along with handouts and virtual resources are available upon request.

At Home: To continue learning outside the classroom, an exclusive co-branded chore and allowance app is available for download from the Apple App Store or Google Play. Enter the invite code FIBMiniBankHome for free access. This app was designed in a way that every caregiver or parent will feel confident in using it, and every child will love the gamified approach in saving, earning, and giving.
