First Interstate officials are excited to announce that Tim Schmidt was recently promoted to Director of Treasury Solutions.
In this role, Schmidt is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring strategic growth objectives of the Treasury Management, Merchant Services, and Commercial Charge Card lines of business for the Bank. In collaboration with Regional Commercial Banking teams, he will also manage a consistent go-to-market sales strategy, with the goal of growing both new and existing business relationships to generate sustainable, scalable and profitable long-term growth for the Company.
After more than 26 years in the banking industry, Schmidt has many successes and experiences to draw on in his new role. Schmidt joined First Interstate during the Great Western Bank (GWB) integration, and he has been with the combined Bank for more than 8 years. At First Interstate and GWB before that, he led the Bank’s Product Management teams, maintaining and enhancing products, updating pricing, and rolling out new platforms. He also was instrumental in the Bank’s migration to a new commercial banking digital platform. Before his time at First Interstate/GWB, Schmidt worked at U.S. Bank in various Product Management and Operational roles, with an emphasis on Treasury Management and digital banking.

He was an original board member of the Federal Reserve’s Remittance Coalition and a founding board member of the International Payments Framework Association.
Schmidt is actively engaged in his community, serving as a Board Member on the City of Saint Paul’s District Council. He has also been a member of the City’s annual Capital Improvement Budget Task Force. He enjoys offering his time coaching youth soccer and basketball.
“Tim’s extensive knowledge and experience in treasury management coupled with his energetic and motivational leadership style makes him the right person to lead this all-important business for our Company,” said Deputy Chief Financial Officer John Stewart. “Tim has a clearly defined long-term strategic vision for our Treasury Solutions business that puts our clients first.
