The First Interstate family was greatly saddened to learn of the passing of Dan Scott this weekend. Dan was the eldest son of our founder, Homer Scott, Sr. He spent his life on the Padlock Ranch near Ranchester, Wyoming, serving as President and CEO for 30 years. He was also a member of the First Interstate BancSystem Board of Directors from 1971 until his retirement in 2003.
Through his work on the Board, Dan was instrumental in helping build First Interstate into the successful regional company it is today. Those who worked closely with Dan remember his quiet style that always put everyone at ease. He possessed a keen acumen for business, particularly in the agricultural sector. Along with his siblings, Dan was an advocate for strong business ethics and values. He carried on his father’s deep-seated belief in hard work, teamwork, fair dealing, and walking the extra mile for the customers and communities the bank serves.
Dan’s legacy at First Interstate continues through the work of his siblings, nephews, nieces, children and grandchildren. Dan was especially proud of his eldest son, Randy, Chairman of the First Interstate BancSystem Foundation and three grandchildren, Devin, Shann, and Kayla, who currently work for First Interstate at branches in Bozeman and Billings. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.
Dan’s leadership and commitment to First Interstate Bank will not be forgotten. He will be greatly missed.
