First Interstate Bank has received notification that customers at various locations have received automated calls informing them that their MasterCard debit card has been deactivated. This message is similar to several other phishing scams, and it is part of a larger phishing attempt reported by individuals across the U.S. over the past few days.
Caller ID shows the number 734-681-7400 and also (000-000-0000) but this number could change at any time, so be wary receiving any messages from suspicious looking numbers. The automated message directs the recipient to press “1” in order to activate the card. After pressing “1” the system will then proceed to ask for customer card details.
This message is designed to steal card information and is in no way associated with First Interstate Bank or our operations. First Interstate Bank would never contact a customer over the phone to request personal or financial information, and anyone attempting to do so is likely a scammer. If you have any concerns regarding this scam or any other suspicious activity, please contact your local branch or our Corporate Security office at 406-237-2702.
