Debit and MasterCard Phone/Text Message Scam

March 20, 2014

First Interstate Bank has received a second notification that customers, as well as non-customers in our region, are receiving text and phone messages indicating that there is a problem with either their debit card or MasterCard Credit Card. These messages are phishing scams, and while the messages do not appear to be targeted at any one group, they are fraudulent and should be ignored.

Messages appear to be coming from “GlacierBank/FirstInterstateBank – Call:8023351001.” There are also reports of a recorded phone message stating that a customer’s MasterCard Credit Card is being deactivated. The caller ID shows a restricted or partial phone number of X3105.

Always be on the lookout for suspicious messages, as the text message details and phone numbers involved can change at any time, but the basic scam attempt will always be a similar format. Scammers will often simply go through a large block of phone numbers at random. First Interstate Bank would never contact customers via text or phone messages. Please do not give out any personal or account information over the phone. If you have any concerns about this or any other scams, please contact our Corporate Security office at 406-237-2702.
