Personal Credit Cards

Can fraud still take place on my EMV (Europay, Mastercard, or Visa) chip credit card?

Category: Personal   Service: Credit Cards | Updated: May 8th, 2023

Answer:

Yes. Chip cards are only secure in face-to-face transactions that take place on chip enabled point-of-sale (POS) terminals.  Merchants that do not have chip enabled POS terminals place the chip card at the same risk of being compromised as the magnetic strip card.

Chip card usage via the internet, phone, and mail orders are all still at risk of their account information being compromised.
