Open a new First Interstate Bank account without visiting a branch! New and existing First Interstate Bank customers living in the Montana, Wyoming, and South Dakota region may open accounts online in as little as 10-15 minutes.

As a new First Interstate customer, you will need to provide the following information and materials to open an account online:

  • U.S. Social Security number
  • Valid form of identification including driver's license, state ID, military ID, tribal ID, or passport
  • Previous home address (if you have lived at your current home address less than two years)
  • Credit card, debit card, or U.S. checking or savings account to fund your new account(s)
  • Email address

To complete the account opening process, you will need to print, complete, sign, and mail the presented account agreement(s) to:

You have 14 days to return your signed account agreement(s) or the account(s) will not be opened and any funds deposited will be returned to you.

As an existing customer, you will need to provide the following information to open an account online:

  • U.S. Social Security number
  • Any First Interstate deposit account number on which you are a primary signer
  • Verification of the existing account balance. Only the last four digits of the account will be shown
  • Verification of the last four digits of a day or evening phone number that First Interstate Bank has on file
  • Credit card, debit card, or U.S. checking or savings account to fund your new account(s)
  • Email address

If you are enrolled in I-Bank Personal Online Banking, you may also open an account online from your I-Bank “View Accounts” page. Because you are already an authenticated user, the application process through I-Bank offers a more streamlined experience.
