First Interstate Bank was honored with two awards at the 2013 Annual Laramie Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet, held each year to recognize businesses and leadership success in the Laramie community. The awards are given out by the Laramie Economic Development Group and Chamber of Commerce in a joint venture to improve the community. Recipients are nominated by current members or investors in good standing with the Chamber. First Interstate Bank received the award for Business Person of the Year and Large Business of the Year.
Mike Peck, Commercial Lending Manager in the Laramie market received the award for Business Person of the Year. Peck is on the Board of Directors for the Chamber of Commerce, serves as Secretary of the Board for United Way, and has served as President of the Kiwanis Club and Laramie Economic Development Corp. With over 380 people in attendance at the banquet, Peck received the award in front of friends and peers.
For the last three years, a First Interstate Bank employee has been awarded Business Person of the Year. The award is given to highlight and celebrate exceptional service by an individual who has positively contributed to the quality of life in Laramie. Through active participation in civic and community leadership, Peck has demonstrated his high level of commitment and visible leadership in Laramie.
“It’s a great honor,” Peck said. “There are so many great people involved with the Chamber and Development groups…it was a humbling experience. I’m just thankful to work for an organization like First Interstate Bank, which provides us numerous opportunities to help the community.” So many opportunities in fact, that the Laramie market logged 3,078 total volunteer hours in 2013.
That spirit of volunteerism is a testament to the culture of the Laramie market. The Large Business of the Year Award goes to a business that demonstrates “Best Practices” and plays a leadership role in civic activities. It celebrates businesses that exemplify leadership, and whose employees generously give time and resources.
